  • KEITH URBAN IS READY TO PULL THE ‘RIPCORD’ AND LET FANS SOAR WITH NEW MUSIC.

Keith Urban releases his new record, Ripcord, the follow-up to his 2013 album Fuse, tomorrow (Friday, May 6th). The collection features special guests Carrie Underwood, Pitbull and Nile Rodgers and a who’s who of creative writers and producers.

“This album’s journey began back in January, 2015 and took me to a lot of unexplored people and places,” Keith has said. “The end result was the recording and exploring of more songs than I’ve ever done before and carving that down to what I felt constituted Ripcord.”

They include new collaborations with Jeff Bhasker, busbee, Greg Wells and Nile Rodgers, as well as those who Keith has worked with before on his previous No. 1 album Fuse, including Shane McAnally, Ross Cooperman, Dann Huff and Nathan Chapman.

Keith has said when he first started working on his new album, he thought it was going to be a continuation of Fuse. However, that all changed once he started recording last January (2015).

“I went into the studio and recorded two songs, and I heard them. We recorded them and I lived with them for about a week, and every time I listened to them, I thought ‘Why aren’t I satisfied with these songs?’ The songs sounded like they would have been on Fuse, and I thought that’s what I was wanting,” says Keith. “So it’s interesting, even the thing in my head that I think I want, being in that setting, suddenly there’s something else. No, this is not what you want, you want something else. Just go back into the forest where there’s no road and just go. Have the faith and go and go for it.”

Keith’s eighth studio album has already produced two No. 1 hits – “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” and his 20th No. 1 song, “Break On Me.” He also has a third hit on the way with “Wasted Time.”

To celebrate, the Grand Ole Opry member will play a FREE outdoor lunchtime show in Nashville on the plaza at the Bridgestone Arena (home of the Nashville Predators) on Monday (May 9th). He also has performed a show last night in New York City and will put on another show in Los Angeles on Tuesday (May 10th).

Keith will definitely be playing several songs from his new album when he launches his ripCORD World Tour 2016 June 2nd in Kansas City, Missouri. He’s going to take Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris along for the ride.

Keith Urban (change of course on Ripcord) OC: …you gotta go. 1:04
“I think of that probably in terms of when I recorded in January. I went into the studio and recorded two songs and I heard them. We recorded them and I lived with them for about a week, and every time I listened to them, I thought ‘Why aren’t I satisfied with these songs?’ The songs sounded like they would have been on Fuse, and I thought that’s what I was wanting. So it’s interesting, even the thing in my head that I think I want, being in that setting suddenly there’s something else. No, this is not what you want, you want something else. Just go back into the forest where there’s no road and just go. Have the faith and go and go for it. And part of me was like ‘Ah, not again!’ Like making Fuse was so arduous and complicated and such a process and I would have given anything to just go into a studio with one producer and record thirteen songs and be done. That would have been just bliss for me.  And I could have done that, but I would have so been so denying the inner voice that was saying to just go where you gotta go.“

Audio / Keith Urban talks about the title of his new album, Ripcord.

Keith Urban (Ripcord title) OC: …the tour. :32
“The name Ripcord comes from a play that’s opening in New York soon. But the image of a ripcord, I like it. I like the sound of the word. I like the energy that it denotes, but metaphorically I also love that it’s a thing that you grab to save your life, and that’s a really beautiful thing. And I was thinking about the various things in my life that I reach for, like family, faith, music, all manner of things. So, Ripcord took on a whole new meaning, but it really, for me, fits the music. It definitely fits the tour.”

  • KEITH URBAN ADDS PITBULL’S STYLE TO ‘SUN DON’T LET ME DOWN’ FROM RIPCORD.

Keith Urban’s new album, Ripcord, will be released Friday (May 6th), and he’s got a few special guests on the record. In addition to Carrie Underwood on “The Fighter,” there’s also “Sun Don’t Let Me Down,” featuring Nile Rodgers and Pitbull.

Keith says the song, which he wrote and co-produced with Nile and busbee, had a musical break which they were just going to let “simmer,” but he heard Pitbull on the radio and felt his “swagger” would work perfectly on the song.

“I called the guys up and said, ‘Should we send this track to him and see what he does with it?’ And they said, ‘Sure.’ So, we sent it. He loved it. The crazy thing was that we gave him no direction at all. We just said, ‘Here’s your 16 bars, just do something. Anything. It’s a blank canvas. Just say what you want to say.’ And thankfully, he loved it,” says Keith. “I had no idea what to expect when I unwrapped the gift so to speak when he sent it to my house. I was like, ‘Okay, what’s this gonna be? What did he say?’ And he sent back this insane verse and really finished out the song.”

Keith is currently making his way up the country charts with his latest single, “Wasted Time.”

“We finished the song, and there was this musical break in the song that we were just going to let simmer a little bit and build back up to the last chorus. Everybody was cool with it, and one day I heard Pitbull singing on the radio, or rapping, and I was like, ‘Man, I’ve always loved his tone.’ It was literally his tone, his flow, his style. And I called the guys up and said, ‘Should we send this track to him and see what he does with it?’ And they said, ‘Sure.’ So, we sent it. He loved it. The crazy thing was that we gave him no direction at all. We just said, ‘Here’s your 16 bars, just do something. Anything. It’s a blank canvas. • KEITH URBAN RELEASES THE VIDEO FOR ‘WASTED TIME.’

Today marks the release of Keith Urban’s new video “Wasted Time,” for the song that is one of the fastest rising chart singles of his career. The video marks the second from Urban’s new album RIPCORD (“John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16), which will be released on Friday, May 6th, and the third directed by John Urbano (“Cop Car” and “Somewhere In My Car”).

Of “Wasted Time” Urban says, “I worked with a lot of new people on Ripcord, and Greg (Wells) was one I’d wanted to work with for a long time.”  “He’d been writing a lot with J (James) and so the three of us spent a couple days at Greg’s studio to jam and see if we clicked. Greg had this cool chord progression and I grabbed my guitar and started singing a melody.”

“J suggested the title, and before we knew it, we were talking about growing up and all the things you do, no matter where you are in the world, and the song just took off from there.” “Wasted Time” was co-written by Greg Wells, J Hart and Urban and was co-produced by Urban and the Grammy Award winning Producer of the Year Greg Wells (Adele, Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, etc.).

The much-anticipated eighth studio album RIPCORD, the result of Urban’s nearly 18-month musical journey, features some of the music industry’s most celebrated and influential musical collaborators from Pitbull to Nile Rodgers to Carrie Underwood and Dann Huff to Jeff Bhasker, Greg Wells and busbee.

Its release coincides with the June 2nd launch of the four-time Grammy Award winner’s “ripCORD WORLD TOUR 2016” with Brett Eldredge and special guest Maren Morris.

  • KEITH URBAN’S ‘WASTED TIME’ IS ABOUT COMING-OF-AGE.

In just one week, Keith Urban will release his new studio album, Ripcord. The collection has already spawned two No. 1 singles – “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” and “Break on Me,” as well as a new hit, “Wasted Time.” Keith wrote the song with Greg Wells and J. Hart, and found out the three of them, while growing up in completely different places, had many of the same experiences.

“I have a lot of that formative years memories from sort of ten to 16, 17 right through there. So, that’s a big coming of age, right of passage period in a boy’s life,” says Keith. “And there was a place we had to I think it was called Lime Rock was the name of the little water hole we would go down to and there was a big rope swing that someone had put in a tree and it was a horrendously long drop to the river below and we would often just cut class and go down there and hang out. And I have such great memories of that. It was an exhilarating, exciting time. You know, girls and skipping class and finding somebody that owns a car on a Friday night and pile into that and drive around with nothing to do except hang out at the gas station act important and be somebody that you’re not. And it was crazy, you know. I get here to write with these two guys and Greg’s [Wells] from Canada and J. [Hart] is from Atlanta, Georgia and yet the three of us had the exact same memories, pretty much the same. Different names of drinks, different names of cars, different names of towns, but pretty much all the same things. So, this song really took off when we started writing it.”

The video for “Wasted Time” has just premiered on Vevo, while Keith’s new album, Ripcord, is available May 6th.

Audio / Keith Urban talks about how he “wasted time” when he was younger, and how those experiences are universal the world over.

Keith Urban (how he Wasted Time) OC: …writing it. 1:37
“The town I grew up, feel I grew up in was Caboolture. I mean I was ten when my parents moved there. We lived in Brisbane before that, but really Caboolture was the small farming town we moved to and it was where I finished out what you would say middle school and then high school. I did all of that in Caboolture, so I have a lot of that formative years memories from sort of ten to 16, 17 right through there. So, that’s a big coming of age, right of passage period in a boy’s life. And there was a place we had to I think it was called Lime Rock was the name of the little water hole we would go down to and there was a big rope swing that someone had put in a tree and it was a horrendously long drop to the river below and we would often just cut class and go down there and hang out.
