Universal Music Group Nashville is celebrating its honorees (see below).

Eric Church leads our nominees with three, including his second nod for Entertainer of the Year. He was also nominated as artist and songwriter in the Song of the Year category for “Some of It” – marking his eighth and ninth nominations in the category.

Chris Stapleton, Dierks Bentley and Keith Urban are nominated for Male Artist of the Year; Jon Pardi is up for Album of the Year for Heartache Medication; and Brothers Osborne and Maddie & Tae are up for Duo of the Year.

The 55th ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS, hosted by Keith Urban, will be broadcast Wednesday, September 16th (live 8:00-11:00 PM ET/delayed PT) on CBS  and will be available to stream on demand on CBS All Access.

Audio / ERIC CHURCH TALKS ABOUT THE ENERGY EXCHANGED BETWEEN HIM AND HIS FANS IN THE AUDIENCE AT HIS SHOWS.

    Download

Eric Church (performing energy) OC: …type of crowd. :40
“Well, I think for me every night I try to empty the tank. There’s always that energy floating around. It’s a palpable thing, and it’s up to me to start that exchange and get the crowd to give it back to me and then watch it build on itself and just to have that experience. We have one night here in whatever city we’re in, you know, we’ve got this night. I’m not gonna see you for a while you’re not gonna see me for a while, you know? And I love being able to capitalize on that moment and trying to live in that moment and get as much energy exchange between myself and the crowd as we can. I love that. That’s my favorite part of what we do. I love being around people, I’m very passionate about my music, and I love people who are passionate about the music too and I love playing a show for that type of crowd.”

Audio / LAST YEAR, CARRIE UNDERWOOD TALKED ABOUT HER ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR NOMINATION FOR LAST YEAR’S CMA AWARDS…AND THE SAME SENTIMENT HOLDS TRUE FOR THIS YEAR’S ACM AWARDS.

    Download

Carrie Underwood (Entertainer nod 2019) OC: …sorry boys! (laughs) :28
“I personally feel like entertainer. It’s everything, right? So, I feel like people kind of narrow it down to tours, but I feel like there’s so many more components to it. And, you know, I’m blessed and lucky to be nominated, obviously, and fantastic company. It would be amazing, but of course, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want it. (laughs) Sorry boys.” (laughs)

Audio / A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, LUKE BRYAN TALKED ABOUT BEING NAMED ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR FROM BOTH THE ACM AWARDS AND CMA AWARDS.

    Download

Luke Bryan (Entertainer wins) OC: …got it right. :49
“The title is what it is, you know? I mean, my focus in life when I’m on stage is entertaining these fans. If it’s my smile and my demeanor, if it’s my song that does it, if it’s me picking up a child out of the audience and letting them sing, it’s not being so premeditated that you can see it from a mile away. I mean, my main thing is be a fan up there that just gets to sing. That’s kind of how I’ve always approached it, and being called the Entertainer of the Year makes me want to do that to the best of my ability every night for the rest of my life as long as I’m on stage. I want people to leave my shows and go, ‘You know what? Whoever’s voting him Entertainer of the Year, they got it right.’”

Audio / Caylee Hammack, who was nominated for a pair of awards going into this year's ACM AWARDS, has won her first for Music Event of the Year.

    Download

Caylee Hammack (ACM Music Event of the Year win) OC: …of women. :42
“Getting to recreate this song with women that inspire me so very much was already a huge blessing for me. To get to perform it every night for the encore of Miranda Lambert’s show that I got to be on tour with her for, it was already this huge blessing for me and then to be nominated was a huge deal and now, we’ve won an ACM for vocal event of the year, this is unreal. And I wish there was another word I could use for it, but unreal is truly it. This is so very special, and I’m just so honored to be in this group of this caliber of women.”

Audio / KACEY MUSGRAVES SAYS SHE WROTE “RAINBOW” AS A MEMO TO HERSELF, BUT SAYS IT CAN HELP PEOPLE ACTUALLY SEE THE SUN THROUGH THE CLOUDS.

    Download

Kacey Musgraves (Rainbow) 1 OC: …make it through. :48
“The song ‘Rainbow’ was actually written a handful of years ago as sort of a little bit of a memo to myself. I think we can all get stuck in a mindset that things are never gonna improve or you can easily focus on kind of the bad parts of whatever you’re going through and not really realize that if you pulled your head above the water you’d see that the sun is actually shining and that everything’s actually okay. I think one of the reasons that people may relate to the song a lot is because, though it was written to myself, I think that it can take the shape of like whatever someone’s going through – whether it’s coming out and not having the support or just any kind of a situation that they don’t feel like they may make it through.”

Audio / ERIC CHURCH TALKS ABOUT HIS SONG "SOME OF IT."

    Download

Eric Church (Some of It coming of age) OC: …figure it out. :56
“That’s a song, a coming-of-age song, it’s an adult song. It’s adult music. If you listen to the thematics in that and what it’s about, it’s about being older and having some wisdom about you. I think that’s something that I appreciate in my fan base now that early on probably wasn’t there. We were young and drunk and fighting and stupid. But I think now to see them grow – to see the fan base grow – it’s just one of those songs that came along at the right time. And again, it was such a blessing that happened. It wasn’t going to be on the album. It was just one of those freak things that I put it on the album, the last song on the album. The album was done, and all of a sudden it becomes the pillar, one of the pillars on the album. I think again, you go back to it’s one of the great things about music, is you just never know what’s going to happen until it’s all said and done. You can try to plan all you want to, but you’ll probably not going to figure it out.”

Audio / Jon Pardi is excited for his ACM Album of the Year nomination.

    Download

Jon Pardi (nominated for ACM AWARD for album) OC: …it’s awesome. :32
“Being nominated for an ACM Award is always awesome, especially when it’s for Album f the Year. From all the hard work we put in to making this record to seeing it as a nominee for Album of the Year is amazing. It’s such a great honor to just have a nomination – to still be in the game is what I’m saying, and I put in a lot of hard work and it’s just so fun. It’s my favorite category to be in and the most, it’s the one I want to be in because that means all the songs help you get that nomination. I think that’s so great, and we work so hard on picking songs. So, it’s awesome.”

Audio / MADDIE MARLOW OF MADDIE & TAE TALK ABOUT BEING NOMINATED FOR THE ACM DUO OF THE YEAR AWARD.

    Download

    Maddie & Tae (ACM 2019) OC: …this year. :35
“Being in the Duo category, especially being the only females in that category, is really, really special. We are just in such good company. Every single duo that’s nominated this year, we are really good friends with and we love and support and root for, but just the fact the industry acknowledges what we’re doing, especially after the crazy past couple of years we’ve had, just to get that nod saying, ‘Hey! You’re doing good. Keep doing what you’re doing,’ is so special. We do not take that for granted ‘cause we didn’t expect that at all, and so it was a huge shock for us and such good news for us this year.”

Audio / BROTHERS OSBORNE SAYS IT'S AN HONOR TO BE NOMINATED AT THIS YEAR'S ACM AWARDS.

    Download

Brothers Osborne (being nominated) OC: (TJ) …but it really is. :26
JOHN: “One of the things I love about the country music genre is “It sounds cliché to say it’s an honor, but it really is that it’s a family. We’re all really, really close. We’re all a bunch of misfits thrown together. We’re all a little different, but we love one another and respect one another, and I’m just honored for the both of us to be a part of this awesome family.” TJ: “I will say to add on that, it sounds cliché to say it’s an honor to be nominated, but it really is.”

Lauren Alaina (What Do You Think Of) 1 OC: …painful time. 1:20

“’What Do You Think Of’ is by far the most emotional song on the EP. It was definitely the scariest for me to put on there. I almost didn’t put it on the EP. That’s how scary it is for me cuz it’s such a vulnerable song and I wrote it at a time when I was so sad.  Like, so sad.  And I was on DWTS. I wasn’t writing, which really helps me process everything. But I was in a time of being on Dancing With The Stars and I didn’t have time to write.  And I told my team, I was like… ‘I have to write. I’ve got to get this off my chest because I was drowning in this emotion.’ And the next thing I knew, I’d written “What Do You Think Of.” And I knew it was really special when I wrote it, but it was such a painful time for me. When I hear it, I get this really sad feeling even though I’m not sad anymore over the breakup, the song makes me sad. And it’s a big risk, I feel like, to put a song like that out there because it’s vulnerable and scary. Sometimes the biggest risks give you the highest reward.  So, my management and my publisher really fought me on putting this song out.  They believed in it from day one. And I did too, but the further away I got from the break-up, the more I was like, I didn’t even listen to it anymore, ‘cause that was such a reminder of such a painful time.”

Lauren Alaina (writing for new EP) OC: …where I am. :59
“I’ve always written from a really vulnerable place. It’s very important to me as a songwriter. Some of these songs that I’ve been writing in the last year though, feel really different because they’re not about me, really. They’re about the way that someone treated me and hurt me. And that feels really scary to me to put that out. “What Do You Think Of” is one of my favorite songs on the EP, but it also scares me the most because it’s from a really broken and sad place and someone else made me feel that way. ‘Road Less Travelled,’ a lot of my sadness came from my own insecurities and my own feelings. And this music is kind of someone else did things to make me feel this way. And so that adds a whole layer of fear and anxiety almost. I don’t know what to do, but I just know that I have to say it and it’s where I am.”

“The last couple of years of my life have been very interesting to say the least.  I spent the last 10 years in the public eye.  And I spent the first few years really working on myself and learning to love myself and becoming the person that I am now.  I was 15 when I started out, so I was a child.  And I became a woman and most of my music up until now has been about that,” says Lauren. “About coming into my own.  And then I had a couple of really public relationships that ended very publicly.  And I wrote this 6-song EP called GETTING OVER HIM about how I handled that.  And I really kept quiet and I didn’t say much because when there are other people involved, it always makes me nervous on what the right thing is to say and when I’m in the middle of the feelings, I don’t wanna get emotional.  I don’t wanna say the wrong thing from an emotional standpoint.  So, I waited until I was healed, and I addressed everything that’s happened over the last couple of years. And it’s kind of my response of how I learned to love myself and continued to love myself when others didn’t.

Getting Over Him features two duets, including the title track duet with her labelmate and friend Jon Pardi. The Georgia native also enlisted International pop sensation Lukas Graham to duet with her on her most vulnerable and heartbreaking “What Do You Think Of.”

Getting Over Him EP Track List:

    1. Run — Lauren Alaina/Ben Johnson/Kennedi

    5. Seen You In Your Hometown — Lauren Alaina/Ben Johnson/ Kennedi
    6. What Do You Think Of? (duet with Lukas Graham) – Lauren Alaina/Johan Carlsson/ Asia Whiteacre

Alaina, one of the hottest rising female artists in country music, is making her way up the country singles chart with her current radio single “Getting Good.” The vocal powerhouse recently released a special mix of “Getting Good” which features her friend/mentor, superstar Trisha Yearwood.

Lauren Alaina (Getting Over Him EP) 2 OC: … six-song EP. :51
“Up until now in my career I feel like most my songs have really been about myself.  And these songs kind of feel like they’re about other people and how they treated me or how I responded to certain situations I was in. And really I think that Road Less Travelled was so important for me to write before I wrote this music because I learned how to be vulnerable and how to be honest about myself and that really kind of set me up to be vulnerable and honest about other things that happened to me.  And I’m really proud of it. I think that I covered all of the emotions I felt.  Anger, sadness, happiness.  New love; what’s gonna happen for me next.  Grrrr!  Meh! All of the emotions are all wrapped up into this one six-song EP. “

Lauren Alaina (Getting Over Him EP) 3 OC: …little break-up. :31
“The first EP was Getting Good, and then I was trying to name this EP. Most of the songs are about getting over him. It felt like the overall theme of this EP was ‘getting over him’ and how I did that. Even the ones that are love songs now, or… like “Seeing You In Your Hometown” is about a newer love and how you feel about that. Well, that was part of getting over him, so it kind of just made sense. All of them just made sense. My little break-up.”

  • LAUREN ALAINA NEW EP GETTING OVER HIM COMING SEPTEMBER 4TH.

Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Lauren Alaina, releases her new song “Run” on Friday (July 31), across all digital service providers. “Run,” co-written by Alaina, Ben Johnson and Kennedi, is the first song from the multi-award winner’s upcoming new EP, Getting Over Him, coming September 4th.

“I wrote ‘Run’ with Ben Johnson and Kennedi,” says Alaina. “We are all running. Constantly. Non-Stop. Even in this quarantine we are all still the busiest we’ve ever been. Life just keeps going and going and going in unbelievable paces as we try to race ourselves to the next thing. My idea with the song was to refer to examples of all things that run because no matter what your walk of life is, we are all racing to the next thing. We are all trying to get where we are going. We all get our hearts broken. We all have these childhood dreams. We ‘run’ to make it all happen.”

“Music is my lifeline,” says Alaina. “Music literally pulls me out of everything I ever go through [career, heartbreak, family, self-worth, love] and I feel really empowered with this music. I feel like this music shows my personal growth and my emotional growth. This EP of songs is all about loving myself through other people not loving me and not staying with me. It’s about me being able to get back to that same confident girl I wrote about on Road Less Travelled and to hold on to that confidence. I get to celebrate that with this music, and I am so excited. I can’t wait for the fans to hear it.”

Getting Over Him features two duets, including the title track duet with her labelmate and friend Jon Pardi.

“I’ve done duets with other people for their projects, but I have never done any for my own,” says Alaina. “I’ve got a duet with Pardi on his album, and then he loved this one [“Getting Over Him”]. His energy is so amazing. I can’t believe I have a rebound song – but I do. (Laughs).”

The Georgia native also enlisted International pop sensation Lukas Graham to duet with her on her most vulnerable and heartbreaking “What Do You Think Of.”  “Lukas Graham’s vocal on this is ridiculous,” says Alaina. “I am the most nervous about releasing this one because I was so vulnerable when I wrote it. Most of my songs come from more of a sassy and empowered place and this song comes from a really broken place. But I think it’s important because it is a part of who I am. It’s a part of what I went through. And if I am going to be honest in my music, I have to share songs like that too.”

Alaina has most recently performed on the 40th annual broadcast of the top-rated PBS special “A Capitol Fourth performing “This Land Is My Land,” CMA Summer Stay-Cay livestream special where she performed “Women of Summer” with Lindsay Ell and Cassadee Pope as well as “Say It With a Song” Game with Devin Dawson and HARDY as well as CMT’s Benefit Concert for Love & Acceptance and she and her friend Kane Brown performed their 5XPlatinum-selling “What Ifs” on the recent nationally-televised CMA Best of Fest on ABC.

  • LAUREN ALAINA AND TRISHA YEARWOOD ARE “GETTING GOOD.”

Country superstar Trisha Yearwood joins Lauren Alaina for a special version of Lauren’s latest feel-good tune, “Getting Good.” The two women hit it off instantly when Lauren recently appeared on an episode of Trisha’s Southern Kitchen. The idea of “singing together sometime” came up and resulted in a beautiful new version of “Getting Good.”

“I just love the sentiment of this song,” Yearwood shares. “We all have these dreams. What you learn, is it’s not the goals that you reach that are the things you’re really going to remember, it’s the journey all along the way. So that lyric – once I learn to grow right where I’m planted, maybe that’s when life starts getting good – that’s the truth. That’s the life lesson.”

“I’m so thankful that I get to share such an important message with one of the most important and impactful voices in my life,” says Lauren. “Trisha is a beautiful person inside and out. I’m honored she said yes to this song and to me. I’m learning to grow right where I’m planted, and I’m realizing, life’s already good.”

Trisha Yearwood (Getting Good) 1 OC: …actually did it. :48
“Lauren Alaina was on Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, my cooking show this season, and we had met at an awards show backstage and just really hit it off and we’re talking food and it just turned into an episode idea. And so when Lauren came to the house and we cooked together, ‘Getting Good’ was getting ready to come out and she was sing and I just started singing along, and we just had the best time. We really hit it off, and she said, ‘We should sing together sometime.’ And I said, ‘I’m in.’ It really was that natural. It wasn’t some manager saying, ‘Hey, we think this would be a great collaboration.’ She and I just really wanted to do this. She reached out a couple weeks after the show ended and said, ‘Hey, what if we did a new version of ‘Getting Good’ together?’ And I said I was in, so here we are. I’m so excited that something that was really natural came out of that and we actually did it.”

Trisha Yearwood (Getting Good) 2 OC: …sentiment of this song. :48
“What I love about ‘Getting Good’ is it’s a song, I think about if that song came along when I was in my 20s singing songs like ‘She’s in Love With The Boy,’ it’s that you’re young and you think you want all these things and then once it happens to you, you’re like, ‘Oh, it didn’t turn out how I  planned.’ We all have these dreams. What you learn when you get to be my age, it’s not the goals that you reach that are the things you’re really gonna remember and that really change things, it’s the journey all along the way. So that lyric – once I learn to grow right where I’m planted, maybe that’s when life starts getting good – that’s the truth. That’s the life lesson. If you can learn it when you’re young to enjoy it along the way, then you’re gonna be happier. Sometimes that’s a lesson we all have to learn as we get older, but I just love the sentiment of this song.”

Trisha Yearwood (having Lauren on cooking show) OC: …Trisha’s pal. :31
“Lauren is, if you go from 1 to 10, Lauren is a 12. Like, she is just high energy. She’s fun. Our show was a blast, one of the most fun days I’ve ever had. We laughed the whole time. The goal is to have a good time. She’s someone who has become a friend and that show had a lot to do with that, and I feel like you’re gonna probably see Lauren on Trisha’s Southern Kitchen more because she’s gone from being celebrity guest to being Trisha’s pal.”
