• TYLER HUBBARD SAYS “5 FOOT 9” WAS A GOOD FOUNDATION FOR THE REST OF HIS MUSIC.

You may have guessed Tyler Hubbard’s new solo single, “5 Foot 9,” is about his wife Hayley, however after speaking to her when he got home from the writing session, he discovered he and his co-writers, Jaren Johnston and Chase McGill, shorted her about an inch.

“Well, I got to be honest. I have a confession. I missed it by about an inch. She’s actually 5’10”,” says Tyler. “I went home that night and said, ‘Babe, remind me again how tall you are exactly. You’re about 5’9”, right?’ She said, ‘Yeah, I’m 5’10”.’ And I thought, ‘Well, here’s a new song I wrote today. I’m sorry I cut you short by an inch, but I hope you like it.”

The Georgia native has been writing constantly, including as a co-writer on Little Big Town’s current single, “Hell Yeah.” In fact, he recorded 18 songs for his upcoming project, and “5 Foot 9” kept coming to the forefront as the debut single.

“That song is just a prime example of a great day in the writing room. I was writing it with Jaren Johnston and Chase McGill, great incredible guys and great writers, and a song that just sorta continued to make it to the top of the pile; one of 18 that I recorded, and I I love all of the songs just about equally, which made it very difficult. They all have a different purpose and a different feel, and it’s all a little piece of who I am and tells my story. But I think ‘5 Foot 9’ was a good launchpad and a good foundation for the rest of this music and what’s to come, and my story and where I’m at. And for me, it seemed appropriate. Something about this song felt nostalgic and familiar, but also very simple in the fact that it just reminds me to appreciate the little things in life and things that we, and myself especially, maybe take for granted at times. You know, all the things that I mentioned in the verses and then obviously just getting to sing about the good stuff in life and where I’m at right now and looking around and seeing yeah, my wife, but also my kids and my family, just the life that we’re living right now. We’re really in a sweet spot, and I’m reminded of where that comes from, so I’m hoping this song will do that for the fans.”

For the past decade, country fans have gotten to know Tyler Hubbard as the lead singer of the multi-platinum-selling, record-breaking duo Florida Georgia Line. Hubbard has written seven No. 1 hits for FGL (singing lead vocal on all 19) plus, he has written cuts for artists across multiple genres including Jason Aldean, Jimmie Allen, Kane Brown, Little Big Town, Thomas Rhett, Chris Tomlin, Nelly and Bebe Rexha.

With 19 No. 1 singles on country radio, countless awards, and sold-out tours, Tyler Hubbard has already had a remarkable career as a songwriter and as one half of multi-platinum duo Florida Georgia Line. Now ready for the next chapter, the Georgia-native and prolific songwriter has written well over 100 songs as he works towards his debut solo album release on EMI Nashville. The first song, “5 Foot 9,” is out now with more music expected throughout the year.

  • TYLER HUBBARD RELEASES HIS NEW SOLO SINGLE, “5 FOOT 9.”

Tyler Hubbard is set to release his debut solo single, “5 Foot 9,” on Friday (May 20th). The Georgia native wrote “5 Foot 9” with Jaren Johnston and Chase McGill, and co-produced the track with Jordan Schmidt.

“So, ‘5 Foot 9’ has been a special song for me since the day we wrote it,” says Tyler. “I wrote it with Chase McGill and Jaren Johnston, and it’s just a reminder to take in the beauty and the simplicity of life, whether it’s dirt roads, whether it’s rain drops, whether it’s country music. And then in the chorus for me, it’s the bigger, more important picture of hey, the real good stuff in life? Just the reminder that God’s responsible for making that happen and just taking that in and letting that be a daily reminder for myself and my fans. So, definitely love this song and it holds a special place in my heart.”
