  • BRAD PAISLEY RELEASES SON OF THE MOUNTAINS: THE FIRST FOUR TRACKS.

Global country music superstar Brad Paisley is releasing the first four songs off his upcoming album Son Of The Mountains together today for the first time with Son Of The Mountains: The First Four Tracks. Brad wants listeners to experience these four songs in this specific sequencing to help paint the journey involved in writing the music for this record. An album whom Brad says, “doesn’t shy away from reflecting real life and real situations going on in America and in our world today. This is what I think country music is about, which is truth.”

Son Of The Mountains: The First Four Tracks is available now and includes the previously released tracks “Same Here” featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and “So Many Summers” plus the newly released title track “Son Of The Mountains” and “The Medicine Will.” The full studio album is anticipated for release in early 2024.

Brad spoke with Variety about the new music in a compelling new interview.

Brad premiered the two new music videos in a live stream event on Friday (September 29th) in partnership with YouTube and journalist Chris Willman of Variety.

Each of the new songs released, “Son Of The Mountains” and “The Medicine Will,” are representations of the Appalachian region including Brad’s home state of West Virginia, reflections of the beautiful and the painful. Brad has created poignant videos, directed by Jim Shea and edited by Brad himself, to encapsulate the sentiment of each song. “Son Of The Mountains” recording and video both feature Dan Tyminski and Jerry Douglas and include beautiful and colorful scenery of the state. “The Medicine Will” focuses on the opioid epidemic and was shot in black and white and in the depths of a coal mine featuring real life-stories of addicts, survivors and first responders.

As a proud West Virginian who was able to make a life for himself outside of the issues facing the people of his home state, Brad is continually returning to use his platform to bring awareness not only to the opioid crisis, but also to the hope that these people have.

Brad recently returned to West Virginia to participate in the grand re-opening and dedication of Herbert Hoover High School in Elkview after the historic flood of 2016 that destroyed the school. Brad toured the school, participated in the dedication ribbon cutting ceremony, attended the football scrimmage (against his alma mater John Marshall High School) and performed after the game in the stadium’s end zone. Nightline exclusively covered his visit, watch the story here.

Brad Paisley (message through music) OC: …this time. :57
“Senator Manchin actually went to that (coal mine) with me and he was showing me his Grandpa, they were three-foot ceilings when they did it, and they had to crawl in and use a hammer to go through. So, yeah, when they were like, ‘Hey, we’ll tell ‘em it’s not addictive. These folks will eat it up like candy.’ That also came into focus on this record, it’s like okay, and that’s kind of what sent me down the path of let’s say something. If music can do that, because I do think it’s one thing to see a news story, but it’s another thing to put a melody to it, and then maybe that’s how you reach all that. Even the fun things on here have some darkness to them. I made a joke the other day, I used to write songs, you think about Jason Alexander and the ‘Celebrity’ video, or he directed the ‘Online’ video, you know. The funny side of me was more sitcoms on the other albums. This album, it’s Fargo. (laughs) It’s dark humor this time.”

  • BRAD PAISLEY SET TO PREMIERE TWO NEW SONGS, ALONG WITH POIGNANT VIDEOS, ON FRIDAY.

Brad Paisley is set to release two new songs — “Son Of The Mountains” and “The Medicine Will” — on Friday (September 29th), and he will premiere the music videos for those songs ahead of the launch with an exclusive YouTube Live stream event set for Noon CT.

Brad, who is from West Virginia, wanted to tell the stories of these people who are in dire straits, but telling them without judgment on the side of the people. He wrote “Son Of The Mountains” first, and it in turn laid the groundwork for the rest of the songs he’s been working on for the last several months.

“The first song I wrote for this record was ‘Son of the Mountains,’ which was – kind of started out as a fun thing, but then I – you know – I say some things in that. It goes by you, but I say some stuff. This song is really about freedom, and my home state’s motto is ‘Montani semper liberi’ I think that’s how you say it. It’s Latin; I don’t know, but it means ‘Mountaineers are always free,’ and so freedom at all costs is the type of thing, and that’s kind of the point of that song, especially,” says Brad. “My cowriter on it is Lee Miller, and his great uncle – like when we were writing this song, we had this first verse that was a whole different verse than what it ended up being. He’s from Kentucky. I’m from West Virginia, obviously, and I said what would be the thing that says it’s like a – I don’t – we don’t listen. When they make rules, we don’t agree with, we don’t do it. (laughs) That’s kind of the West Virginia thing. And he said, ‘Well, I have an uncle that went to prison running moonshine,’ and I said, ‘Why in the hell didn’t you say that in the first place? That’s the coolest.’ He’s like ‘Well my family doesn’t talk about it. We’re not really proud of it.’ That would be bio line one for me if I had that in my family. So, it’s a true story. His uncle was hauling jugs across state lines into Tennessee and spent years in the federal prison, so that’s that song. And it’s like yeah try and – you know Prohibition didn’t work in that area of the world. We didn’t listen to it, you know. It was disorganized crime there. In Chicago, it was organized crime, and West Virginia was disorganized, but it was just moonshine stills.”

“The Medicine Will” is a song he wrote about the devastating opioid crisis that has affected that part of the country, where coal mining and timbering were about the only jobs available, but with that came injuries and severe pain. The residents of these towns were prescribed opioids to relieve the pain, but it created an epidemic of major proportions of addiction and in many cases, death. There are a few different statistics from different towns receiving MILLIONS of pills. In Kermit, West Virginia, 12 Million pills were delivered to the town of less than 280 people and 30 Million pills were delivered to just three pharmacies in Mingo County, one of the poorest counties in America.

“I spent a couple of days in West Virginia interviewing survivors and first responders and people that have been working on this, and I’ve never seen anything like it,” says Brad. “I mean, I come from a town that’s changed since I left it. From ideal to – there’s this underbelly of things that are scary that weren’t there. And that is really near and dear to my heart this cause of holding the companies responsible that targeted that area, and they did. They targeted them. They knew that these people that power our country digging coal are – they need pain killers to do what they do.”

Brad, along with his band and musicians Dan Tyminski and Jerry Douglas, filmed “The Medicine Will” music video in a coal mine in Bluefield, West Virginia. Brad says, “I’ve never felt anything like what was like – you know with like ‘bout a six foot ceiling and coal everywhere and just like dug out.”

  • BRAD PAISLEY ATTENDS RE-OPENING DEDICATION EVENTS FOR HERBERT HOOVER HIGH SCHOOL IN WEST VIRGINIA.

Brad Paisley returned to his home state of West Virginia today to participate in the grand re-opening and dedication of Herbert Hoover High School in Elkview after the historic flood of 2016 that destroyed the school. Brad toured the school, participated in the dedication ribbon cutting ceremony, attended the football scrimmage (against his alma mater John Marshall High School) and performed after the game in the stadium’s end zone.

“This is the nicest high school I have ever seen,” Brad shared at the ribbon cutting. “I can’t tell you how amazing it is to see something that devastating and that terrible turned into something so inspiring. I think an enormous gift has been given to the students of this school. High school can be a very difficult time in a student’s life because it’s filled with trivialities. You’re worried about how you’ll fit in, about what you are wearing, if you’re popular and doing well in classes. But what you’ve been given here is something much larger. It’s been a glimpse of the real world and the wonderful things that human beings can do for one another in the face of disaster. That should over shadow all the trivialities of high school for you. And never lose sight that good people came together to build this for you and your future.”

In 2016, Brad toured the hard-hit area soon after the flood with West Virginia Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Capito and Save The Children’s West Virginia Director. He created a Go-Fund-Me account that collected more than one million dollars with an initial donation of $100,000 from his Paisley Foundation to help the devastated area.

As an advocate for West Virginia Brad has participated in numerous charitable efforts in the state over the last 20 years including annual scholarships to a music or arts student at his alma mater, contributions to The Easter Seals Foundation of Wheeling, purchasing books for area schools and other funding support for flood relief over the years and more.
The title of Brad’s forth coming album, “Son of The Mountains,” is an ode to his home state and the place that shaped him.
