    The nominations for the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards were announced this morning, and at the top of the list is Chris Stapleton with five nominations.

    Chris earned nods in the categories for Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Single of the Year (“You Should Probably Leave”) – nominated as artist + producer, Video of the Year (“I Bet You Think About Me”).

     

    Carrie Underwood and Jordan Davis both earned four nominations each.

    Carrie is up for Carrie Underwood Entertainer of the Year, Single of the Year (“If I Didn’t Love You”), Video of the Year (“If I Didn’t Love You”) and Music Event of the Year (“If I Didn’t Love You”)

     

    Jordan Davis is nominated for Single of the Year (“Buy Dirt”), Song of the Year (“Buy Dirt”) – nominated as artist + songwriter, Music Event of the Year (“Buy Dirt”), along with Luke Bryan.

     

    Luke picks up three nominations with Jordan Davis for Single of the Year (“Buy Dirt”), Song of the Year (“Buy Dirt”) and Music Event of the Year (“Buy Dirt”)

    Eric Church is nominated for Entertainer of the Year, while the members of Little Big Town are up for Group of the Year.

    Taylor Swift receives her 32nd nomination, her first ACM Award nomination since 2018 as she is nominated for ACM Music Video of the Year. Actor, producer, and director Blake Lively receives two nominations for producing and directing Taylor Swift’s music video I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version). This marks Lively’s first ACM Award nomination and her first nomination at a music award show. Actor and Producer Austin Swift is a first-time nominee, receiving a nod for producer of I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version).

    “Jason asked if I would sing ‘If I Didn’t Love You’ with him. I knew I liked the song, and Jason and I have actually been kind of trying to do things together over the years. We’ve sang together before, but we’ve never officially recorded anything together. It just kind of felt like this could be our moment. I felt like it was a little bit of an unexpected duet to other people, but I feel like I kinda always knew at some point I’d probably sing with him officially, and this just seemed like, the stars were aligning and it just seemed like it was going to be the perfect fit.”

    “We took a writer’s retreat a little south of Nashville, me and three of my favorite writers in the world – Matt Jenkins, Josh Jenkins and my brother Jacob. We started every day – we were down there three days – and we started every day with coffee on the back porch, and Josh would lead us in some type of devotional. He would find some scripture and then we would just kind of chew on it for a little bit. That day he had read, and I need to remember the exact scripture, but it was something about being planted, being planted in the dirt and having a strong root system so you can weather storms and rain. That is really the start of ‘Buy Dirt.’ And I don’t know if that song comes if we don’t wake up early and get out there and kind of start talking about real life. That was where it all started, and I’m grateful, grateful that I (laughs) didn’t sleep in that day.”

    “I met Luke three or four years ago at an awards show after party, and got to hang with him, but I really kind of got to sit and talk with him after a round of golf one day, and we just really talked about everything under the sun aside from music. Luke kind of embodies what that song is. You know a lot of people get to see Luke on American Idol or on stage, but Luke Bryan really is a great guy. I sent him a message one day, a text message actually attached with the song, and I was like, ‘Hey Luke, I wrote this. It means a lot to me. You came to mind whenever I was thinking about it, through the writing process, and this song just kind of says what you’re about, and if you want to sing on it, great, no pressure. Don’t even feel the need to text me back or whatever. Just listen to it and let me know.’ And he got right back with me. He’s like, ‘Man I love the song. Let me live with it for a couple of days.’ And he called me back four or five days later and was like, ‘When do you want me singing on this thing?’ That was a pretty cool moment. I’m such a big fan of Luke, and he’s been a huge influence on me since I moved to Nashville, and pretty cool to have him on one of my songs now.”

    Luke Bryan will appear on ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday (February 7th).

    Taylor Swift, Brothers Osborne, Chris Stapleton and Mickey Guyton are among the artists featured in the new Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum’s new American Currents: State of the Music exhibit opening March 4th. The annual exhibit highlights notable music, artist achievements and events from the past year, and it will also include a video compilation of important country music moments from 2021, and recaps the year’s chart-topping country albums, singles and highest-grossing tours. The exhibit will run through February 2023.

    Taylor Swift is the subject of a course at New York University, which continues through March 9th.

    Darius Rucker was among the celebrities at this past weekend’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He was joined by fellow country artists Jake Owen, Clay Walker, Charles Kelley and Colt Ford, as well as a few famous faces including Don Cheadle, Bill Murray, Ray Romano, Alfonso Ribeiro, Andy Garcia and Chris O’Donnell.     Dierks Bentley will co-headline the NHL Stadium Series with pal Miranda Lambert when the Nashville Predators host the Tampa Bay Lightning in a couple of weeks. The Predators will take to the ice outdoors at Nissan Stadium (instead of Bridgestone Arena). The game will air on TNT February 26th beginning at 7:30pm ET/6:30pm CT.

    ABOUT BROTHERS OSBORNE:
    Two sons from a working-class family, John and TJ Osborne grew up in Deale, MD a water town writing and playing songs for friends and family in their father’s shed (watch them return to their hometown in this CBS Sunday Morning segment here). John moved to Nashville first to play in other bands and two years later, TJ joined him.     “One of the main reasons we named our record Skeletons is we feel that that song defines where we’re at in our career sonically and lyrically and defines what our band sounds like. It’s the first song that we recorded and paved the way for the rest of the record. And just the word, Skeletons, has such a really cool aesthetic and brand to it. We knew we could really have a lot of fun in terms of the art, the album art and production and stuff like that. It’s really compelling. It gets your brain going.”

    Brothers Osborne will appear on an upcoming episode of ABC’s Nightline (weeknights at 12:35am ET).

    Jon Langston will makes his Grand Ole Opry debut on February 22nd.

     

    Dierks Bentley is among the new inductees for the 2021 Walk of Fame Class. The ceremony is scheduled to take place April 5th at the Walk of Fame Park in downtown Nashville beginning at 2pm CT. Connie Smith, Bobby Bare and Keb’ Mo’ will also be inducted. Inductees “are recognized for their significant contributions to preserving the musical heritage of Nashville and for contributing to the world through song.”

    John Osborne says “Midnight Rider’s Prayer” almost made their previous album, but it didn’t quite fit the duo’s second album. “We almost put this on our previous album Port Saint Joe, but it didn’t quite fit at the time, so we decided to retool to make it sound more like Brothers Osborne sounds these days,” he says. “But we wrote the song back when we were in a van and a trailer and we made this song really dark and minor, and we ended up using the chorus from Willie Nelson’s ‘On The Road Again’ with Willie’s blessing. And it’s just cool. I mean it gives a good window as to lyrically where we came from, but sonically where we’re at today.”

    As for the song “Headstone,” the guys got a little “wild and crazy” after partaking of a gift from one of their bandmembers. “We were all set up and ready to play and we decided to take some microdosing of magic mushrooms, which normally you don’t feel anything,” John recalls. “Well, this particular batch that we got from our bass player should have come with a warning because it was way, way stronger than any of us predicted. So, that’s why the song ended up being five minutes of trippy guitar solos (laughs) and changing time signatures and it got really, really wild and crazy. After listening back the next day we thought, ‘Okay, maybe we need to wait on this song for a little while.’ But you know, after these past two years of the pandemic, quarantining, the state of the world, I think that we could all use a little trip right about now.”

    “We almost put this on our previous album Port Saint Joe, but it didn’t quite fit at the time, so we decided to retool to make it sound more like Brothers Osborne sounds these days. But we wrote the song back when we were in a van and a trailer and we made this song really dark and minor, and we ended up using the chorus from Willie Nelson’s ‘On The Road Again’ with Willie’s blessing. And it’s just cool. I mean it gives a good window as to lyrically where we came from, but sonically where we’re at today.”

    “The day that we actually tracked ‘Headstone,’ it was recorded at Zac Brown’s studio, because we were displaced from the tornados. And we were all set up and ready to play and we decided to take some microdosing of magic mushrooms, which normally you don’t feel anything. Well, this particular batch that we got from our bass player should have come with a warning because it was way, way stronger than any of us predicted. So, that’s why the song ended up being five minutes of trippy guitar solos (laughs) and changing time signatures and it got really, really wild and crazy. After listening back the next day we thought, ‘Okay, maybe we need to wait on this song for a little while.’ But you know, after these past two years of the pandemic, quarantining, the state of the world, I think that we could all use a little trip right about now.”

    TJ: “The inspiration behind ‘Younger Me’ was really inspired by both, really kind of both of our stories and just the different things that we struggled with in our youth and we just made things overly complicated. I truly didn’t think I’d get to this point in my life, and I’m sure John would probably say the same for himself. And we really just wanted to really kind of almost in some ways write a note to our younger selves and just kind of tell them to hold on, hold tight, and hopefully in an effort for maybe other people out there that are going through that currently to realize there will be a moment in your life where you can look back on this and be happy that you made it through.”

Originating from downtown Nashville across multiple locations, the star-studded special will be packed with high-energy performances celebrating the excitement and anticipation of a new year.     Music City has built an outstanding reputation for hosting the most musical New Year’s celebration and country’s biggest party. The five-hour celebration will feature nearly 50 performances from locations across the city, including the main stage in Nashville’s Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park anchored by headliners Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown Band and Dan + Shay. Now it’s time to celebrate even more.’ Debauchery is the literally bookending your entire year.” TJ: “I love how everyone starts the year off with diets and then we end the year with like excessive amounts of food. But I just kind of enjoy being off and just doing all that, but when I found out that this big CBS special is happening in my adopted hometown of Nashville where I’ve lived for almost 30 years, I really wanted to be a part of it, because it’s a special moment for the city, it’s a special moment for country music. I love our town and I love country music, and I watch the stuff out of New York and some of the other networks that do New Year’s Eve Countdowns, and there’s no reason why Nashville shouldn’t, why Country Music shouldn’t be the No. 1 thing everyone’s watching on New Year’s Eve. We have all the artists and they’re all great to work with and they’re just gonna put on great performances and I think it’ll be a big moment for the city and a big moment for Country Music.     Brothers Osborne have wrapped their We’re Not For Everyone Tour and have started winding down for the holidays. The reigning CMA Duo of the Year love the sights and sounds of Christmas.

    “I love the overall feel and look at that time of year, because it’s starting to get really cold then and everything’s coming to a halt. It stays dark, so you have a lot of Christmas lights. I just love Christmas lights – they put you in such an amazing mood,” says John Osborne. “Just the sounds, like all the Christmas music and even shopping, which is quite possibly one of the most hectic things to do during the holidays. Even if we have all our shopping done, we’ll still go to the mall just because it’s so alive and vibrant and the colors and the music and the lights. I just love it. It’s a bit sensory overload, but I kinda dig that.”

    Spending time with their family has become very important to the duo, especially with how busy their lives have become over the past several years. “Particularly as of late with John and I traveling a lot we don’t get a lot of family time at all. And so, as time goes on, I really value that more and more,” says TJ Osborne, adding “This sounds like obvious, but a Christmas tradition to us is just simply being able to stop and hit pause and hang out with the family. I mean, we get to miss so many things. We have wonderful careers, but we miss birthdays, and we miss so many crazy fun parties and just the small things. So, I feel Christmas is that moment where we can just stop, hang out, get back to our roots, get home with the family and eat those homecooked meals and just laugh. And of course, you always have got to have your arguing, your Christmas arguing. (laughs) But that’s become like a tradition every year.     “I love the overall feel and look at that time of year, because it’s starting to get really cold then and everything’s coming to a halt. It stays dark so you have a lot of Christmas lights. I just love Christmas lights – they put you in such an amazing mood. Just the sounds, like all the Christmas music and even shopping, which is quite possibly one of the most hectic things to do during the holidays. Even if we have all our shopping done, we’ll still go to the mall just because it’s so alive and vibrant and the colors and the music and the lights. I just love it. It’s a bit sensory overload, but I kinda dig that.”

    “I think part of just holidays in general when mostly there’s nowhere to go, everything is shut down so you’re like forced to finally like (JOHN: “Relax.”) you have to be a family and hang in this house. Particularly as of late with John and I traveling a lot we don’t get a lot of family time at all. And so, as time goes on, I really value that more and more.”

    “What’s up, Y’all, Brothers Osborne here. And you know with our crazy lives, and this sounds like obvious, but a Christmas tradition to us is just simply being able to stop and hit pause and hang out with the family. I mean, we get to miss so many things. We have wonderful careers, but we miss birthdays, and we miss so many crazy fun parties and just the small things. So, I feel Christmas is that moment where we can just stop, hang out, get back to our roots, get home with the family and eat those homecooked meals and just laugh. And of course, you always have got to have your arguing, your Christmas arguing. (laughs) But that’s become like a tradition every year.
