• KEITH URBAN IS NAMED THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2016 CRS ARTIST HUMANITARIAN AWARD.

The Country Radio Broadcasters have announced Keith Urban as the recipient of the 2016 CRS Artist Humanitarian Award, to be presented during the opening ceremonies of Country Radio Seminar on Feb. 8, 2016. Last year’s Artist Humanitarian Award recipient, Lady Antebellum, will be on hand to present Urban with this year’s award.

The CRB Artist Humanitarian Award was created in 1990 by the organization’s board to honor Country music artists who have exhibited exceptional humanitarian efforts during their career.

CRS Executive Director, Bill Mayne comments, “Keith Urban is a true humanitarian who gives out of love, passion, spirit, and generosity. It’s been an honor to witness quietly from the sidelines, the amount of time, talent, and passion that Keith has selflessly given over his life and career. The impact and reach of his generosity has effected so many and is so broad in scope and depth – his is a bar of humanitarian effort, that we all can be inspired by!”

Over the years, Urban has been a strong supporter of numerous benefit concerts, including the annual “All For The Hall” Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum benefit concerts, which has raised nearly $3 million in proceeds.  In addition, he’s been and remains a supporter of The Grammy in the Schools program, Mr. Holland’s Opus Fund and was recently named the first Ambassador of the CMA Foundation.

He is a continued supporter of the “Make A Wish” Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As an advisory board member at St. Jude, Urban has visited the hospital and produces a calendar each year with all net proceeds going to St. Jude. Since their inception in 2003, these calendars have raised more than $850,000 for the life-saving mission of the hospital.

Following the 2010 Nashville flood, he was very active in the relief efforts and participated in the re-opening of the Grand Ole Opry House, Marty Stuart’s “Late Night Jam,” GAC and Vince Gill telethons; all to raise funds for flood relief.

Additionally, he has supported our nation’s troops and the Navy SEALS Foundation. Urban donated to the foundation his share of artist and publishing royalties from his song “For You,” which reached a total of $300,000.

He was also the first Ambassador for the CMA Foundation’s Education Program and has donated from his line, URBAN guitars, to five Music Education Matters partner programs across the country, including programs in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City and San Francisco. He’s also donated URBAN guitars to the Grammy Foundation and its MusiCares program, as well as donating proceeds from the guitars to Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation to keep musical instruments in schools.

Past recipients of the Artist Humanitarian Award have included Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Trace Adkins, Randy Owen, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Reba, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks and Charlie Daniels, among others.

  • CHRISTMAS 2015: Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt has been on a roll with barely a day off, but that’s okay by him. With three No. 1 singles, gold and platinum plaques, awards, being named one of CMT’s Artists of the Year and Grammy nominations, he’s been on cloud nine for the past year. But with a little time off to head home to Georgia for the Christmas holidays, he’s ready to take a moment and just hang out with family.

We get together with my Dad’s side of the family, and then for dinner, we get together with my Mom’s side and exchange gifts,” says Sam. “Of course, myself and my brothers are well-past Santa Claus age, but Santa Claus still comes [laughs] at our house when we wake up in the morning, so that’s cool. But it’s turned into more of a, and I really appreciate the time with my family, it turns into more of a social thing now and less about the gifts and the food and all that sorta stuff.”

One of his favorite gifts as a child was a horse he received one Christmas. “I remember being really excited when, I got into riding horses, and one Christmas I got a Mustang that I named Comanche – a horse – and that was a really exciting time. I rode all the time after that. Before, I had some friends, a babysitter whose kids had horses, so I’d be able to ride occasionally, but now I was able to ride whenever I wanted to.”

Sam is crashing the country charts with his latest single, “Break Up in a Small Town.”

Sam Hunt (Christmas) OC: … sorta stuff. :53
“It’s kind of a Thanksgiving re-do with gifts. It’s the same process. We eat a lot of, some of the same foods, not the dressing or maybe the cranberry sauce, and all of the other Thanksgiving things aren’t there, but still I think we have lots of turkey and a lot of other fixins for Christmas. I think the dessert table is a lot bigger on Christmas. We get together in the same fashion for lunch. We get together with my Dad’s side of the family, and then for dinner, we get together with my Mom’s side and exchange gifts. Of course, myself and my brothers are well-past Santa Claus age, but Santa Claus still comes [laughs] at our house when we wake up in the morning, so that’s cool. But it’s turned into more of a, and I really appreciate the time with my family, it turns into more of a social thing now and less about the gifts and the food and all that sorta stuff.”

  • CHRISTMAS 2015: LADY ANTEBELLUM

The members of Lady Antebellum all have families of their own, and they’re all excited to pass on their own traditions to the next generation. Charles, Dave and Hillary share their memories, traditions and favorites of the yuletide season below.

Audio / Lady Antebellum discuss real or fake trees for Christmas.

    Download

Lady A (fake tree vs real tree) OC: (Charles) …the lights up. :47
    DAVE/HILLARY: “Fake tree!”

CHARLES: “I would love to have a real tree, and we used to have it and I always wondered why I couldn’t breathe. [LAUGHS] Dave and I share, we’re allergic to everything in this world, so we have to have fake trees.”

HILLARY: “There not as messy. [CHARLES: “And who wants their house to burn down accidentally?”] They still kinda shed anyway like a real tree, but I don’t know, I just feel like the sap and everything, it gets on my floor.”

DAVE: “Which some people love! Most people … the cleanup and the smell, but for me it’s just a little too much maintenance at Christmas time. I’d rather focus on [HILLARY: “The family.”] presents, family, food [CHARLES: “And drinking.”], so then the tree just pops in the attic for good.”

    HILLARY: [LAUGHS] “Pre-lit tree.”

CHARLES: “Omigosh, you’re going super laziness.”

DAVE: “You at least need to put some lights on.”

CHARLES: “At least string the lights up.”

Audio / Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott recalls some of her mom’s ornaments she thought was tacky when she was a child, but insists now that they hang on the tree.

    Download

    Lady A (Hillary—tackiest ornaments) OC: …this year? [laughs] :20
“My mom, I gave her such a hard time when I was a little girl, because she went to some store and got these, it’s like snowmen with an icicle hanging down from the bottom, so I thought they were so gawdy. But you know what? Now that I’m older, I love ‘em. And if they’re not on the tree, I’m like, ‘Mama, where are they? Where are the snowmen icicle lights this year?” [laughs]

Audio / Lady A’s Charles Kelley says he has some of his own childhood handmade ornaments on his tree…much to his wife’s chagrin.

    Download

Lady A (Charles trimming the tree) OC: …she relented. :25
“My mom actually sent me some of our old ornaments that we had made and stuff. We always had the cheesiest tree (HILLARY: “Homemade…”), but I miss it. It was always so very colorful. And with my wife, she’s very stylish and chic, and so she wanted this really chic tree, and so she wanted this really chic tree, and I said, ‘Baby, I’m sorry. We’ve got to put a little color in this.’ So, I put some of my cheesy little stuff on there, and I think that’s part of Christmas. I think you have to have that, so she relented.”

Audio / Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley says he is a last minute Christmas shopper.

    Download

    LADY A (Charles-last minute shopper) OC: …last-minuter. :08
“I’m probably a last-minute shopper for sure. Hillary says she’s already been doing her Christmas shopping really early, but I would have to say I’m a last-minuter.”

Audio / Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum talks about some of his favorite or more memorable Christmases.

    Download

Charles Kelley (Christmas memory-bike) OC: …Christmas Eve. :27
“My favorite Christmas memory – the one I remember the most is when I wrecked my bike. I had just gotten a bike for Christmas, and it had rained and I slid out and the bike handle hit me in the eye, and I got a big ole black eye. But, what I remember most more than anything, is just growing up with all of my family and waking up in the morning. Josh, my brother Josh and I were about a year and a half apart, so we were like twins growing up. We could never stay still on Christmas Eve.”

Audio / Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum talks about his favorite Christmas albums.

    Download

Charles Kelley (Christmas albums) OC: …Vince Gill Christmas. :20
“I love anything Vince Gill and Martina McBride. For some reason, my wife, she’s a giant, Martina McBride is what she grew up listening to Christmas. So, at our house it’s always that. My generation, I think, it was all Martina McBride and Vince Gill Christmas.”

Audio / Charles Kelley recalls a favorite Christmas tradition in his family.

    Download

Charles Kelley (apple cider tradition) OC: …and apples. [Hillary laughs] :18
“You know one thing that I honestly always associate Christmas with is apple cider. Hot apple cider. My mom always made it and she put in all these spices, and it always reminds me of Christmas. My mom used to also make baked apples too, which I don’t know what our obsession is with apples, but apparently we’re Christmas and apples.” [Hillary laughs]

Audio / Dave Haywood of Lady Antebellum recalls one of his favorite Christmas gifts.

    Download

Lady A (favorite Christmas gift) OC: (Charles) …album cover, too. :15
“My favorite Christmas gift was probably my very first guitar from my Grandpa about 15 years ago. And more recently, I got a red Gibson about 5 or 6 years ago. That red one we use on stage was given to me by my Dad for Christmas years ago.” CHARLES: “It was on our first album cover, too.”

Audio / The members of Lady A talk about their favorite Christmas movies.

    Download

LADY A (Christmas movies) OC: (Hillary) …Christmas Vacation. :14
CHARLES: “Favorite Christmas movie would have to be A Christmas Story! I never get tired out of it – ‘shoot your eye out’ is my favorite line.” DAVE: “National Lampoon’s…” HILLARY: “Yes! My favorite Christmas movie is – it’s close between It’s a Wonderful Life and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

Audio / Lady A reveal their favorite Christmas songs.

    Download

LADY A (Christmas songs) OC: (Hillary) …His Child.’ :15
CHARLES: “Favorite Christmas song for me would have to be ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.’ How ‘bout you guys?” DAVE: “My favorite Christmas song would have to be ‘We Three Kings.’” HILLARY: “One of my favorite all-time Christmas songs is one that Trisha Yearwood recorded called ‘It Wasn’t His Child.’”

Audio / Lady Antebellum’s Dave Haywood talks about his favorite Christmas tradition that he wants to carry on with his own family, which includes his wife Kelli and son Cash.

    Download

    Lady A (Dave-Christmas tradition) OC: …it along. :23
“I think the tradition that I would love to carry on is kind of a funny one. My dad on Christmas Eve, he would actually read the Christmas Story. Very predictable, I know, but after the Christmas Story, he would always give his famous Christmas test. He would have this long test, and he would ask us about the Wise Men and the shepherds and the entire Christmas Story. I’m gonna have to get the copy of it from him, because he never gives us the full answers. But, I’d love to get that test from him and be able to pass it along.”

  • DAVID NAIL AND HIS WIFE CATHERINE WELCOME THEIR BABY GIRL AND BABY BOY.

MCA recording artist David Nail and wife Catherine received two early Christmas gifts with the arrival of their twins. The proud parents welcomed their twins, son Lawson Brent Nail born at 7:44 a.m. CT and daughter Lillian Catherine Nail at 7:45 am CT this morning at a local Nashville area hospital. Lawson and Lillian are the first children for the Nail’s. Lawson, Lillian and their Mom are doing great.

“No words can describe the feeling,” says David and Catherine. “Beyond worth the wait. We are crazy in love with them both.”

Nail just wrapped touring with Darius Rucker’s Southern Style Tour. The Grammy-nominated artist’s current single “Night’s On Fire,” from his upcoming album Fighter, is climbing the country singles chart.

Audio / A couple of weeks ago, David Nail talked about his anxiety over becoming a first-time father...to twins.

    Download

David Nail (anxiety over becoming a father) OC: …we know it. :55
“I think the thing I’m most anxious about as far as being a father is the struggles that Catherine and I have had that we’ve been very public about. It’s been four or five years that we’ve been battling the issues of infertility and the fact that with the help of some amazing doctors in Nashville and science, we were able to conceive. And so, just knowing how difficult it’s been, and just like anything, when times are tough and you come out on the other side, it makes it that much sweeter. They’re definitely going to be special, and we look forward to them being here and we’ve already got their names picked out and the nursery’s done, and the bags are packed and ready to go to the hospital just waiting on that moment to come. So, hopefully it’ll be here before we know it.”

  • CHRISTMAS 2015: Brothers Osborne

Brothers Osborne will be back home in Deale, Maryland for the holidays, and while they’re enjoying the down time with family, they also love the sights and sounds of Christmas.

“It stays dark so you have a lot of Christmas lights. I just love Christmas lights – they put you in such an amazing mood,” says John Osborne. “Just the sounds, like all the Christmas music and even shopping, which is quite possibly one of the most hectic things to do during the holidays. Even if we have all our shopping done, we’ll still go to the mall just because it’s so alive and vibrant and the colors and the music and the lights. I just love it. It’s a bit sensory overload, but I kinda dig that.”

Brothers Osborne, who are sitting at No. 5 with “Stay a Little Longer,” are nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Their debut album, Pawn Shop, is available January 15th.

Audio / John Osborne of Brothers Osborne says he loves the feel, sights and sounds of Christmas.

Brothers Osborne (feel of Christmas) OC: …dig that. :36
“I love the overall feel and look at that time of year, because it’s starting to get really cold then and everything’s coming to a halt. It stays dark so you have a lot of Christmas lights. I just love Christmas lights – they put you in such an amazing mood. Just the sounds, like all the Christmas music and even shopping, which is quite possibly one of the most hectic things to do during the holidays. Even if we have all our shopping done, we’ll still go to the mall just because it’s so alive and vibrant and the colors and the music and the lights. I just love it. • SAM HUNT SET TO PERFORM DURING THE SEASON FINALE OF NBC’S THE VOICE.

Sam Hunt will perform on the season-finale of NBC’s The Voice next week.  Sam is joined on the show by Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Missy Elliott and newcomer The Weeknd. The show will air live Tuesday (December 15th) at 9pm ET on NBC.

Sam, who recently picked up his first American Music Award in the all-genre New Artist of the Year category and is up for two Grammy Awards (including overall Best New Artist and Best Country Album for his gold-certified Montevallo), is poised to enter the Top 10 on the country charts with his latest hit, “Breakup in a Small Town.”

  • CHRISTMAS 2015: Scotty McCreery

Scotty McCreery, like most country artists, doesn’t get to see his family and friends very often during the year, since he’s on the road so much. So, the holidays give him some quality downtime with them.

“It’s tough being on the road and not seeing them as much during the year,” says Scotty. “But the holidays is always the time you can get together as a family and just reflect on the year and spend some quality time together.”

Some of the things his family does around the holidays is watch some classic movies, including The Santa Clause movies, Home Alone and The Christmas Story.

Scotty, who is making his way up the country charts with his latest single “Southern Belle,” released his own collection of holiday tunes, Christmas with Scotty McCreery, in 2012.

Audio / Scotty McCreery reveals his favorite Christmas song, which was recorded by Elvis Presley in 1957.

Scotty McCreery (favorite Christmas song) OC: …my favorite. :18
“My favorite Christmas song comes from my favorite Christmas album, and that’s Elvis’ Christmas album. I was an Elvis fanatic growing up. It was ‘Blue Christmas.’ When I was making my album [Christmas With Scotty McCreery], I knew I was going to put at least one Elvis song on there, so it came down to just deciding that nobody was going to sing ‘Blue Christmas’ like Elvis Presley, so we did ‘Santa Claus is Back in Town.’ But ‘Blue Christmas’ is definitely my favorite.”
